Network administration

You will find in this section some scripts done in my work as a network administrator. There are also the text versions of the colloquies given as part of my job, and guides left for users in the network.

Network experience

I am a network administrator for the Laboratorio Docente de Computación, LDC, (Computer Lab, in spanish) at Simón Bolívar University since January 2002. This network spans the 2nd. floor of the Math and Systems building of the campus, and it's used by Computer Engineering teachers and studentes. We use PC machines with Solaris, Windows, and Linux (mostly Fedora Core 3 and Gentoo), SPARC stations and Alpha servers. We provide home, web hosting, email and technical support for teachers and students, database servers (MySQL and Oracle 9i) for courses. We also manage the DNS, DHCP, Samba, NFS services in there. The laboratory is completely run by undergraduates, and we ourselves train our new people.

The LDC also manages other networks in the campus, in particular the network and computing grids for the Parallel and Distributed Systems laboratory (SPD, its abbreviation in Spanish), and the High Performance Computing lab (CAR, its abbreviation in Spanish).

Scripts

birth.pl (4.6Kb) - From a list of birthday dates along with the name of the person and his email adress, the program checks if there is someone whose birthday is tomorrow or today, and sends mail to the rest of the people in the list, except the one with the birthday. Perfect to put in your cron list :-), and uses the sendmail command to send mails. The code and the comments are written in Spanish, though.

Colloquies/Guides

The colloquies are opened in a new windows. In order to see PDF files downloading Acrobat Reader is a must. As with the articles, I don't possess translations of these. Please contact me if you want to translate them.
